Japanese liner Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) is to pioneer the use of underwater drones for the inspection of containerships.

The plan to launch the underwater drones has been crafted with Sekido Company.

Damage to the bottom of ships can cause huge issues for liners and ports as it can often lead to fuel losses and unwanted build up of dirt and grime being brought into ports.

The job of inspecting ships is usually done by divers, however these new aquatic drones mark another step into the increasing robotization of the maritime sector.
