The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has reported significant growth in cargo tonnage for August, handling 30,527,279 tonnes, marking a 26.57% increase compared to the same period last year.

Export containers rose by 18.76% to 258,955 TEUs, while imports increased by 15.24%, reaching 261,288 TEUs.

General cargo amounted to 711,111 tonnes, with bulk solid cargo at 4,832,305 tonnes, and bulk liquid cargo at 17,525,862 tonnes. Livestock imports dropped by 24.27%, totalling 422,449 heads. Despite a 5.01% decline in handled containers, and transhipment containers falling by 40.29%, overall cargo volumes continued to grow.

Shipping traffic fell by 4.18% to 986 ships, and passenger numbers declined by 32.5%. However, car shipments rose by 24.5% to 103,416. Mawani previously announced a 9.11% increase in cargo tonnage for July, showing consistent growth in Saudi port operations.

This growth reflects the efficiency and capacity of Saudi ports, supporting the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub.
