Kongsberg-Wilhelmsen Create New Autonomous Shipping Company
Norwegian companies Kongsberg andWilhelmsen have joined forces to create Massterly, a joint venture that aims to establish infrastructure and services to design and operate autonomous vessels.
The joint venture (JV) also aims to create advanced logistics solutions associated with maritime autonomous operations.
The JV is providing major competition to companies such as Rolls Royce that have long been planning an autonomous future for cargo ships.
Autonomous ships will essentially force more primitive elements of the supply chain to get ‘smart’ and advance their technology in order to service the ships of the future and keep pace in a changing market.
