UPS hosted the second of the Smart Logistics Challenge series with a Healthcare focus at Expo 2020 Dubai, in partnership with DP World and AstroLabs.

The healthcare landscape is transforming rapidly, and there is a need to ensure reliability, scalability and security to meet supply chain demand.

Jean-Francois Condamine, UPS President for Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, Africa said: “UPS has been closely involved in efforts to ensure the equitable delivery of vaccines to those who need it most, across the world, and we have first-hand experience in the logistics of saving lives.

“Our aim, through this challenge, is to work together with the finalists to continue driving the healthcare industry forward in the days to come.”

· Seven start-ups to present their game-changing solutions to real world challenges in the healthcare logistics industry.

UPS Showcases Logistics of the Future at Expo 2020 Dubai with The HIVE

· The challenges addressed include real-time transparency, reliability and predictability, compliance, temperature control, among others.

· Judges included: - Mike Bhaskaran, Chief Technology Officer at DP World, Patrick van der Loo, Regional President Africa, and the Middle East at Pfizer, Roland Daher, CEO and co-founder, Astrolabs and Jean-Francois Condamine, President of UPS's Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa (ISMEA).

Tec4med was declared the winner of the challenge and will be fast-tracked to a proof-of-concept (POC) discussion with UPS and/or DP World.

Tec4med is a provider of the NextGen end-to-end supply chain eco-system integrating smart temperature-controlled shippers, monitoring, cloud and AI solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

"The contestants were clearly very keyed in to the sector, and were very aware of what needs to be improved. It also shows just how important such events can be in discovering talent and allowing innovation to pollinate across an industry.”

Roland Daher, CEO and co-founder, Astrolabs, said: “The HSLC is the second collaboration between UPS and AstroLabs to identify and support top global start-ups bringing unique solutions to continue to enhance the healthcare logistics supply chain.

"The program is a validation milestone for participating startups and revealed impressive levels of execution and innovation.”
