20% Increase in Software Jobs in UAE

New figures signal digital transformation of the logistics sector

New figures showcasing the UAE’s software, hardware and telecom sectors have recorded a 20% increase in jobs in only one year, according to Reuters.

The news is highly relevant for the supply chain and logistics sectors as the UAE has some of the world’s most cutting edge infrastructure, where manual roles are increasingly being replaced by their digital counterparts.

The growth in software jobs has been put down to increases in modern technology, growth within the e-commerce market, and demand for new digital services.

All such services require a new type of professional, digitally savvy worker.

Abhijeet Mukherjee, CEO of job site Monster, APAC & Middle East, who carried out the original research, said: “We are pleased to be releasing the latest findings of our MEI.

“It comes as no surprise that software, hardware and telecom professions are leading growth, especially given how great 2017 has been for e-commerce in the UAE.”

Digital transformation has become so ubiquitous in the UAE that the Dubai government has outlined a blockchain strategy.

Mukherjee added: “By relying on technology, a smart government can offer more efficient services, and a smart city can facilitate smoother experiences.

“This is the direction that the UAE is going. Naturally, this means there will be more reliance on skilled professionals who can execute these visions on the ground.”
