Otis Wins Kuwait Airport Elevator Contract

New terminal set for major upgrades

Otis, an elevator manufacturer and subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, has won the contract to supply 190 elevators for the US$4.3 billion second passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport (KWI).

The terms of the contract state that Otis is to deliver 171 Gen 2 and 19 elevators with capacities to move up to 5,000kg and up to 10 tonnes respectively.

The units feature Otis technology such as Regen Drive, Gen 2 flat-coated steel belts and Pulse monitoring systems.

Otis Middle East vice-president and managing director Maged Nagib said: “The new passenger terminal in Kuwait will be one of the region’s biggest infrastructure projects, and we’re extremely proud to be part of this landmark project.

“Otis is committed to Kuwait’s fast growth and high standards of efficiency and traveler comfort.”

Upon completion, the terminal will serve a new regional air hub in the Persian Gulf, accommodating 13 million passengers per year.
