UAE and Saudi Arabia Among Six Countries Invited to Join BRICS
According to a Reuters report the BRICS group of nations has invited UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt and Argentina to join the bloc in a bid to create better economic and human development conditions for the "Global South".
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and host of the BRICS leaders' summit announced the new candidate members today. They are expected to join the group on January 1, 2024.
Mr Ramaphosa stated: "BRICS has embarked on a new chapter in its effort to build a world that is fair, a world that is just, a world that is also inclusive and prosperous."
Several leaders of the grouping said the door is also open for other interested countries that may wish to join in the future.
