Subsequently, Mr Beydoun appreciated and thanked the assembled Heroes of the supply chain who had "showed compassion, unselfishness and bravery when it was needed the most."
Mr Beydoun described the genesis of the Heroes of the Pandemic Awards narrating how Sam Khan, against all odds in the middle of the lockdown, managed to make a heart-touching and very well-received video throwing a rare spotlight on the outstanding work that the transport and logistics sectors were doing in order to keep supply chains moving and economies ticking in the midst of a historic pandemic.
Mr Beydoun said: "We saw companies altering strategies to make sure operations remained functioning and shelves stayed stacked, while dealing with a host of unprecedented demands. This lead to us realising that these really were stories of heroes.
"These were not the heroes in the hospitals and the frontlines but heroes that ensured that first responders and frontliners had what they needed to combat corona."
Addressing the gathering, Mr Beydoun said: "You are truly heroes among the heroes."
