Dubai Customs Reveals Active Rafed Channels

Dubai Customs has received 1,375 intelligence calls through Rafed channels since the launch of the service in 2015 until the end of the first half of 2019.

The Intelligence Department in Dubai Customs in cooperation with the Corporate Communication Department launched Rafed summer marketing campaign which targeted the busiest customs centers in Dubai.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness about customs hazards and illegitimate trade practices which can put national security and economy at risk.

There are 47 significant calls registered by the Intelligence Department, which makes 13.13% out of the total 358 calls received by Rafed service in 2018, compared to 21 relevant calls out of 298 calls in 2017.

In the first half of 2019, the Department received 194 calls, out of which 26 were relevant.

Shuaib Al Suwaidi, Director of Customs Intelligence Department pointed out that Rafed is an innovative and secure Community-Customs communication channel that helps employees, clients or the public report customs violations and illicit trade practices that may harm national economy and trade.

Information submitted through the service are guaranteed confidentiality.

The Customs Compliance Committee at the World Customs Organization applauded this channel and its important role in detecting illegal practices.

“This service is gaining further weight and importance due to the noticeable growth in Dubai external trade and increase in the number of passengers.

“This took us a step further to enlighten others about the hazards of illegitimate trade and to encourage people to report any acts that can threaten the security of the nation.

“We need to maintain and enhance this secure environment as this attracts more investments into the country. Rafed service, since its launch in 2015, has contributed directly to the protection of society through reports that led to thwarting attempts to smuggle different restricted and prohibited goods” said Al Suwaidi.
