DP World is likely to build an inland port in Jammu and Kashmir as part of plans by the emirate of Dubai to invest in the Indian territory, according to a report by Reuters.

Earlier last year the Indian government had announced that Dubai would invest in infrastructure and other projects in the disputed region.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, is on a visit to Dubai to seek investment. He is reported to have said that DP World would be visiting a 250 acre site in the union territory earmarked for the inland port facility.

"We will finalise it shortly," he told Reuters, describing the project as a "firm commitment" by DP World.

A DP World spokesperson said the company had a "productive meeting" with Sinha and that it was preparing a proposal for the project.

The UAE-headquartered Lulu Group, headed by an Indian billionaire, also has plans to set up a food processing hub in a heavily militarised Jammu and Kashmir.
