Saudi Arabia has confirmed that a US$4 billion bridge between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain is to begin construction in 2021.

The anticipated King Hamed Bridge will feature a road and a rail link connecting Bahrain to the wider GCC network.

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Bahrain confirmed the news when speaking to Al Arabiya, stating that “...the tender for the King Hamad Causeway will be launched after six months.

“It is expected that the project execution will start by mid-2021, where it will be complete in three years.”

The GCC is set to become increasingly connected, with a huge burgeoning international rail project and increasing collaboration in the region.
