World’s Largest Ship Makes Suez Debut

Record-breaking MSC Gulsun transits Suez

The world’s largest ship, the MSC Gulsun, has successfully transited the Suez Canal marking a record breaking voyage, according to the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority.

Head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority Mohab Mamish made the announcement after the 23,756 TEU ship sailed through on its journey from the Port of Xingiang to northwestern Europe.

The MSC Gulsun is one of the 11 ships built by MSC by Korean manufacturers Samsung and Daewoo.

The world’s largest ship operates exclusively between the Far East and Northwest Europe via the Suez Canal.

The vessel is 400 metres long, 61.4 meters wide, 16 meters deep and can carry a load of 232,000 tons.

The Suez Canal remains the world’s premier shipping canal as it allows the passage of huge vessels and sits in a highly strategic global location.

The canal was lauded by MSC Gulsun’s captain, as he commented on how the new channel saves travel time and fuel.
