The 20 million TEU King Abdullah Port in Saudi Arabia has been officially opened by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salmon of Saudi Arabia.
The port is the kingdom’s latest mega-infrastructure project as it strives to build itself into one of the world’s most modern nations.
Crown Prince Mohammed said at the opening ceremony that the port will “...make the Kingdom [of Saudi Arabia] a linking point of three continents – Asia, Europe and Africa.”
The inauguration also saw the signing of a memorandum-of-understanding (MoU) with Saudi Air Cargo to build a link between the port and airport.
The new port features 18 metre deep berths allowing it to handle the world’s largest vessels.
According to reports, the new port has generated around US$3.5 billion in investment.
