Maersk Launches New Customs Clearance System

Leading liner looks deeper into the supply chain

TLME News Service

Maersk Line has unveiled a new digital customs clearance platform, according to reports, in a bid to become a one-stop-shop for shippers.

The news system shows the prices for import and export customs declarations online, thereby freeing Maersk offering shippers a quote.

Vincent Clerc, Chief Commercial Officer of Maersk, believes the system will save, “three to five minutes per quote.”

Clerc said: “It saves our customers time, money and headaches reducing the number of intermediaries they deal with from three or four to just one.”

Thus far, the system has been unveiled in Europe, with the carrier expected to expand its offering worldwide by the end of 2019.

This latest move sees Maersk continue its recent approach of moving into the broader supply chain to streamline processes.

As technology is changing the wider supply chain, those who offer ease of service and collaborative opportunities are likely to win out.
