Even as US and EU military coalitions moved naval vessels into the region Houthi attacks on vessels in and around the Red Sea continue. The target areas have now increased from the Madeb Strait to now include both the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea.
According to reports from United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, a Mearsk vessel sailing from Northern Europe via the Cape of Good Hope was attacked in the Arabian Sea. The vessel, however, was unharmed.
Weapons used in the attacks are also growing more powerful and sophisticated with drone boats now added to the mix of drones and missiles.
Recent storms around the Cape of Good Hope, in which and CMA CGM vessels lost 44 containers overboard, have further added to the troubles of shipping lines with delays and the subsequent loss of allocated berthing slots.
These difficulties have also caused liners to up rates with hikes along various shipping routes that have to sail through troubled waters around the Gulf region.
