CMA CGM Vessel Looses 44 Containers in Storm Around Cape of Good Hope

South African storms delay multiple Cape diverted container ships

The CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin encountered strong adverse weather conditions off the South African resulting in 44 containers lost at sea on Tuesday.

The containers were lost during Benjamin Franklin's westbound voyage from Asia to Europe. Another 30 containers were also damaged on the vessel.

No casualities or injuries were reported.

All of this week Cape Town has been hit by bad weather. Thanks to this wearther another container ship Ultra Galaxy started to list near South Africa on Monday. The 18-strong crew were rescued after evacuating in a life raft.

The delays due to bad weather are only going to agravate port congestions already being experienced in parts of Europe and Asia as a result of the Red Sea diversions.
