E-commerce platform Souq has opened a centre in Dubai in a bid to expand its footprint and sales in the Middle East.

Global retail giant Amazon bought Souq in 2018 for US$580 million.

The new facility is slated to fill 23,000 square metres, becoming the UAE’s third fulfilment centre.

Given Souq’s new capabilities in the region, it will allow for much faster shipping.

CEO of Souq Ronaldo Mouchawar said: “The increased fulfilment capacity also benefits our sellers, who comprise of thousands of small- and medium-sized businesses, by enabling them to scale up their businesses on our marketplace.”

Souq is capitalising on a rapidly growing e-Commerce sector in the Middle East, with the UAE set to become a leader in the sphere.
