Speaking at the recently held TLME Future of Logistics Conference Part 3, Alexandros Komianos Chief Fulfilment and Logistics Officer, CHalhoub Group, said a key learning from the pandemic was not put all your eggs in one basket.
Mr Komianos was responding to conference moderator Lars Jensen's question about the lessons learned from the years of the pandemic.
Mr Kosmianos explained that as a retailer the Chalhoub Group saw sharply escalating transport and logistics costs highly impacting their bottom line. This highlighted the need to have more efficient and robust logistics making it one of the core functions of Chalhoub Group's operations.
Another aspect highlighted by the disruptions of the pandemic was setting up right partnerships with multiple vendors and not relying on a single provider of logistics services.
Adding further on the effects of the pandemic Mr Kosmianos said "It allowed us as logisticians to have a seat on the table" and the companies started paying greater attention to their logistics operations and how it was a "strategic enabler" that helped in growing the business further with lower costs and greater efficiency.
