Oman’s new low-cost carrier SalamAir is setting up a host of new routes in its network and looking to make a clear profit by 2020.

CEO Mohamed Ahmed recently stated that SalamAir was at 85%seat occupancies on its fleet of seven Airbus A320 jets.

SalamAir was launched in 2017 and is hoping to carry 1.3 million passengers by year-end 2019.

Passenger figures are expected to more than double to around 3 million by 2020.

From December 2019 onwards, SalamAir will fly six times a week to Bahrain, meaning that the airline now flies to 10 destinations in the GCC, including Dubai, Riyadh, Jeddah, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi.

“In keeping with the growing demand from our guests for seamless connections between Oman and Bahrain, we are delighted to launch this new destination,” said Captain Mohamed Ahmed.

“Flying to Bahrain is an important development, considering there is a lot of family connections, along with it being a popular destination of interest for leisure and business travellers,” he concluded.
