The Japanese NEC Corporation has been awarded a contract from Modern Bus Company to deliver an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology that will help manage 400 buses in real-time in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The launch date of the project is 2020.
The new system brings a raft of automation to the transportation process, with automated fare collection, a bus location management system, and bus information provided through solar-powered displays at bus stops and mobile applications.
General Manager of NEC Corporation’s Transportation and Logistics Solutions Division, Ryuji Nakagawa, said: “NEC has a well-established record of providing ITS throughout Asia, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and India, and will continue to build partnerships globally in support of the development of safe, secure and efficient transportation infrastructure.”
Nakagawa also said the deal was part of its aim to manage 2,000 buses with Modern Bus Company in Makkah within the next five years.
